(May 2013) Enlarge Meanwhile, the raiders were having their own unexpected problems with traffic congestion and suspicious railroad personnel they encountered along their route, necessitating the ruse that they were bringing an emergency ammunition supply to Gen. Danville Leadbetter commanding the Chattanooga garrison. As far as Resaca, other than lifting with difficulty a few rails and cutting telegraph wire to hinder pursuit, they had committed no significant destruction. Nothing at Resaca remains of the raid, though it was later the scene of a notable 1864 battle and resulting Resaca Confederate Cemetery. Time was fast running out for Andrews and his men, along with wood and water!
