(September 2003) Allatoona Pass or The Deep Cut. Entering the cut, looking north

Site Marker: The wartime Western & Atlantic Railroad passed through the Allatoona Mountain Range by means of this deep cut, penetrating some 95 feet of solid rock plus another 85 feet of earth for a total depth of approximately 180 feet, and was some 360 feet in length. The railroad was moved some distance west when Allatoona dam and reservoir were constructed in the late 1940's, but the cut is otherwise little changed since the time of the war

(October 2002) For 125 years railroad workers have cared for the grave of an unknown soldier at Allatoona. The grave was originally on the north end of "The Cut". When the railroad was rerouted years later, the workers moved the grave to this location so they could still "care" for it. Located on south edge of Allatoona beside the railroad
