The family of Samuel Buckland lies buried here.. Remember the soldiers were reburied elsewhere, so much of the small cemetery is barren

These are the gates to the Fort Churchill Cemetery. The cemetery is locked and visitors are prohibited, but it is possible to look inside to see the fragile graves of a few pioneers. The soldiers were all removed

In 1864, The Gold Hill Daily News described the officers quarters: "As they are, they are the most comfortable quarters on the coast, and they would be, if finished, the most elegant residences for any gentleman in the land"

This was the most substantial ruin of the officers quarters at Fort Churchill
