(2009) Enlarge Perine artesian well behind mansion vintage photograph: At 734 feet deep at the time of it's construction, the Perine well was said to be the deepest in the world. It's reputation was so great that in 1856, President Millard Fillmore paid a visit to the well. At that time, the well discharged a remarkable 1,000 to 1,300 gallons of water per minute
