(March 2008) Enlarge 165 New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment ( Zouaves) REPLICA Uniform

The 165 New York REPLICA uniform is on display at the Mansfield Battlefield Museum. This regiment wore a distinctive "Zouave " uniform based on a style word by French troops in Africa. The 165th New York was a regiment in the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 19th Army Corps

There is a story relating to Mansfield of one of these soldiers who was captured and very worried about what would happen to him. A Confederate soldier is rumored to have remarked that there was nothing to fear as Southern men always treated "LADIES" with respect.-A clear derogatory reference to the Zouave uniform the 165th New Yorker wore
