Enlarge Burning of Alexandria and
Blame Game Display Panel
Alexandria was burned by Union troops. There is plenty of evidence written
by both the Federal soldiers who did the burning and looting and those
Union men who wrote in disgust of what they witnessed. The "Blame Game" is
not in reference to the burning of Alexandria, rather the section refers
to blame for the disastrous campaign. Both Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter
and Major General Nathaniiel Prentice Banks were were "called on the
carpet" for what transpired under their watch.
