(September 30, 2008) Enlarge This bronze 12lb Napoleon is located on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol. The gun is not too far from the building. There is a marker which states the gun was believed to have been placed by Federal troops during Reconstruction. There is another similar bronze 12 lb. gun and an iron gun located nearby with the same story

(September 30, 2008) Enlarge Detail The Monument to Confederate Dead is located on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol. A statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis stands at the top with four statues below. The fours statues represent the CS Navy, Artillery, Cavalry, and Infantry.

This photo taken around 6pm on Sept 30, 2008 so due to the sunset it was impossible to get a clear view without shade from nearby trees

(September 30, 2008) Enlarge Close-up of Texas Confederate Cavalry Trooper on Texas Monument to Confederate Dead

This statue shows the detail of the four statues located on each of the four corners of the Texas Monument to Confederate Dead at the Capitol grounds in Austin. The photographer was lucky to have this representation of a Texas Confederate cavalry trooper unshaded by the setting sun because his ancestor Isaac B. Ellison served until the end with Likens' 35th Texas Cavalry Regiment, Trans-Mississippi Department, Confederate States Army. There is little to mark the deeds of any troops from the Trans-Mississippi, so it was nice to see some recognition on the Texas State Capitol Grounds

(September 30, 2008) Enlarge The base of the Texas Monument to Confederate Dead has a chronological record of the battles. This photo is just one representative pane of many panes listing the many bloody battles of the War Between The States on the sides of the base
