(April 2010) First Methodist Church: Circa 1860. This church is the oldest congregation in Columbus. The Civil War interrupted completion of the building. During this period portions of the tin roof were removed to be used to make canteens for Confederate soldiers. The building was used as a hospital for the sick and wounded soldiers from the Battle of Shiloh and as a place for the manufacturing of ammunition |
