Illinois Memorial

Located at Tour Stop 2, near the Shirley House, is the Illinois Memorial. Modeled after the Roman Pantheon, the Illinois Memorial was dedicated on October 26, 1906. There are 47 steps leading up to the entrance, one for each day of the Siege of Vicksburg. Inside are 60 bronze tablets listing the names of all 36,325 Illinois soldiers who participated in the Vicksburg Campaign. Narrative by Ed Conner, TN
