Texas Historical Marker for Jeff Davis Hospital.
This marker was dedicated and photo taken January 18, 2009 and is in
front of the Old Jeff Davis Hospital. The site contains hundreds of
Confederate graves and was built with an above-ground basement due to
opposition from living CSA veterans not wishing the graves of their
comrades to be disturbed.
Not mentioned on the plaque is the CSA General Hospital located very
close, along with a camp of instruction and the railroad tracks. Literally
hundreds of CSA troops are buried here. Most died of disease.

The roof area was open during the dedication of the historical marker
on January 18, 2009. The CSA area and 1st National Flag can be seen inside
the Houston Fire Dept facility in a photo taken from the roof of the Old
Jeff Davis Hospital. This area was at one time a children's play area for
the hospital, but is now closed.
