The Battle of Ellis Bridge took place three miles west of West Point between General William 'Sooy' Smith and General Nathan Bedford Forrest on February 20-21, 1864. This small memorial park is slightly west of the actual site as this was the only land closest to the location that could be obtained. The current crossing at Chuquatonchee Creek (known as Sakatonchee Creek during the Civil War). The original wartime Ellis Bridge crossed at this exact location but the exact location of the battle is currently unknown for lack of found evidence. The battle did take place at or very near this location along the creek crossing. This bridge crossing is located approximately three miles west of West Point on Hwy 50. This view is looking East back towards West Point
