Battle of Olustee Florida Print
This print is on display inside the museum. The Battle of Olustee
Florida was also known as the Battle of Ocean Pond. Near Ocean Pond
Confederates made entrenchments. Union troops never reached this
position. Like many other battles during the war, this was fought on
ground of neither side's choosing. Instead of fighting in or around the
pond, the conflict took place in a pine forest. |

Hawley's Brigade at Olustee
7th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry
7th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry
8th United States Colored Troops (Infantry)
Col. Joseph Hawley was criticized for the poor performance. The veteran
7th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry and veteran 7th New Hampshire
Volunteer Infantry were sometimes referred to as the 77th New England
due to long association together. The 8th USCT was a relatively
inexperienced group. |
