Although not as big of a park as that of Tannehill, Brierfield Iron Works Park is just as important for the role it played during and after the Civil War. The park's main historic attraction is the furnace remains built during the civil war which provided steel to the foundries in Selma, Alabama for the use of shipbuilding and cannon production. There are several post Civil War 1800's and early 1900's structures which were originally positioned in and around the community of Brierfield which have been moved to the park. Most of these buildings have been converted into cabins which can be rented out for overnight stays. There are a few short trails in the park some of which wind up a hill behind the furnace and end at the furnace reservoir remains. The trails themselves are lined with bits and chunks of furnace slag and brick. The park office/store, although not a museum, offers some items on display which have been found on the park grounds dating to the Civil War and post Civil War history such as an old portable cook stove, cannon balls, brick made on the premisis, nails from the nail factory, and samples of turquoise colored slag. Most of the items found on site have been preserved in a permanent museum collection located nearby at Tannehill Furnace Park. Brierfield Iron Works Park is a tangible link to the history of the Civil War and an ongoing effort is being made so future generations can enjoy this history as well.
