The 15th Reg. Mass. Volunteers Lion Monument. This monument is located in the western part of the West Woods and is accessible only by walking through an unidentified path through the woods or on the Rt 65 bypass which is outside the park. This marks the deepest penetration by the Union forces during the West woods action. Future Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendall Holmes, Jr was an officer of the 15th and was wounded at Antietam
