Built in 1845, the Lane house includes five acres in the center of Crawfordsville. Henry S. Lane (Indiana initiate) served as governor of Indiana, state representative, US congressman, and senator. He also chaired the first Republican national convention in 1856. He died in 1881. The restored mansion has been open for tours since 1931.
 
Lane's brother-in-law was Lew Wallace
