Oxford Lake (pdf)

Oxford Lake is where the Confederate Brush Battalion camped. They consisted of men hiding out in the bush, thickets, and creek bottoms who enrolled in the Confederacy on November 6, 1863. One muster listing of this Brush Battalion read: "December 12, 1863, Bonham." Oxford Lake of the Boggy Community was near the juncture of Indian Creek and Pilot Grove Creek, three miles northwest of Farmersville, Collin County. Oxford Lake was the site of a 1914 baptism for the Antioch Baptist Church, two miles east. Ola (Tyner) Spain is the 5th person from the right in the water
