Warrenton
Beckham House, 37 Culpeper St. - This house was the home of the John
Grigsby Beckham family. A son, Robert Franklin Beckham was a graduate of
West Point class of 1859, and a classmate of Union General Edwin
Stoughton. Mosby brought General Stoughton here the morning of March 9,
1863 following his capture in the Fairfax Courthouse Raid. Stoughton was
welcomed and entertained when Mosby stopped here to eat before taking
Stoughton to Culpepper where he was turned over to another old friend of
his, Confederate General Fitzhugh Lee. Robert F. Beckham assumed command
of the Stuart Horse Artillery following the death of the Gallant John
Pelham at Kelly’s Ford in Culpepper County. He was later transferred and
killed during the Battle of Franklin Tennessee |

Warren Green Hotel - Mosby and fifteen men stopped here to eat on
their way from Fredericksburg Virginia to Northern Virginia to begin
partisan operations on January 18 1863. He was also a frequent diner here
while conducting his law practice following the war |
