Monument reads:
Brig. Gen. James J. Pettigrew. Born at Bonarva, on July 4, 1828. Died July 17, 1863 at Bunker Hill, the residence of A. M. Boyd, near Martinsburg, VA from wounds received near Falling Waters, on the Potomac River while acting with his command as rear guard for General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia
