(May 2010) Enlarge These photos were taken on May 30, 2010 of the construction in progress to replace the Jefferson Davis Presidential Library that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In addition to hurricane force winds, Hurricane Katrina had a 24 ft tidal surge over this land hence the devastation

(May 2010) Enlarge According to our tour guide, prior to purchasing the home, the future second owner of this home (Mrs. Dudley) is rumored to have walked from the back of the home to the front and when stepping out the front door Mrs. Dudley supposedly said "Beau Voir" -which translates to "Good View" in English. The name apparently stuck and this home is known as Beauvoir

The home was devastated by Hurricane Katrina and has recently been refurbished with some new discoveries made to more accurately depict the house. Our tour guide told us the Cedar doors in one room were originally painted, not stained, to appear as Oak. The doors later were painted white and the cover-up was discovered by paint experts involved in the restoration
