(June 2009) Enlarge Welcome Center at Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce
 
This welcome center is located on Highway 98 just north of I-10 near the town of Spanish Fort, Alabama. This area was the site of activity during the Union 1865 Campaign. This location has interpretive markers as well as a scenic overlook of Mobile Bay

(June 2009) Enlarge These markers are situated at the Mobile Bay overlook just north of the intersection of Hwy 98 and I-10. One interpretive details the Battle of Mobile Bay, while the other two are concerned with the 8th Iowa Vol. Infantry line and Fort McDermott

"The very air was hot" The 8th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regt. was a Union regiment which besieged Confederate Fort McDermott. Throughout the town of Spanish Fort Alabama there are many markers and even street names denote the fighting. Unfortunately on June 5, 2009 the sunset made getting even a good edited photo difficult
