Redoubt # 4 was the strongest and most prominent of the 9 redoubts protecting the town of Blakeley, built from 1864-65. This fort held 4 field guns, a mortar, and a 7 inch rifled gun that was never used due to it's incomplete carriage. The men that manned these works were remnants from the First Missouri Brigade (CSA). The artillery men were veterans from, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee
