(5-02) Administration Building. Fort Gibson National Cemetery (established 1868) is located in Muskogee County, 1-1/2 miles northeast of Fort Gibson. The cemetery contains a total of 48 acres and includes over 15,000 interments. Of the Union soldiers buried here, the names of 156 are known and 2,208 are unknown. Most were removed from old and abandoned post cemeteries such as Fort Towson, Fort Arbuckle, Fort Washita, and other nearby towns
