I am also looking for information about family that was in the Arkansas 4th
Infantry Div. His name is Wyatt P. Lochabay. My great aunt has a copy of a civil
war paymuster where he was there in the morning for roll and not there in the

I have visited the Vicksburg site 2 times, and enjoyed each visit more than the
last. I was especially tickled the last time because my husband was with me and
we spent 4 hours there, not long enough but still it was something that I could
not get him to do willingly, thank you for your work and I look forward to
researching the Vicksburg battle and the Cairo more.

My grandfather was Henry George Sulpice and my Great-grandfather was Frederick
Louis Sulpice of France and came to Louisiana about 1860-1865 and married Blance
Bouret who was almost 10 years older than Frederick Louis. I found in some
comfederate books in our library that they volunteered in patroling in New
Orleans during the beginning of the War between theStates, but I don't know what
they did after. I have great photos of Frederick Louis Sulpice, his sons
Frederick, Jr. and Henry George Sul

the history that lies within the walls, and roads and the whispering little

A valuable history of bravery, idealism, folly, incompetence, sadness,
unfullfilled dreams, and neddless waste. I remember those who fell and those who
survived, but who must have carried the scars of the time for the remainder of
their lives. I remember the families left without loved ones. I remember all of
this from a situation of modern day safety and comfort. I must and I do
remember, but I would rather not to have to remember.

Found this website while looking for info on Antietam. I had two g-g-granfathers
who fought in the Zouave regiments. One was a captain at Antietam in the Hawkins
regiment. The other was a sergeant with the Duryee regiment from NY that was in
the battle of Port Hudson to take the Citadel. As I recall they launched a night
attack with hand grenades on or about June 28-30. Since I don't have the
regiment book (printed in 1905) in front of me, I am not sure on the dates. The

I couldn't submit a comment because I got a "front end error." Just thought
you'd like to know. Your site looks very interesting but I CAN'T READ IT. The
gray background is totally distracting as it provides very poor contrast. I gave
up trying even though I know I got results from my search on the surname
"BISHOP." I had hoped to find information on my great great uncle, Loomis K.
Bishop, from Michigan. Please drop me a line if you fix your site up someday so
it's readable. Thanks. Rita

I much enjoyed your site, but the information about the Battle of Devil's
Backbone ( aka Backbone Mountain) is incorrect. My great grandparents, James
Grimes Patton and Mary Caroline Hunter Patton lived and farmed on Coker Road, at
the foot of Backbone Mountain, just south of Greenwood, in Sebastian County,
Arkansas, and my two young great uncles, Rufus Patton, age 14, and Orville
Patton, age 17, helped bury the dead and evacuate the wounded immediately after
the battle. The injured were carried

Hi: Just wanted to thank you for your fabulous website. My great grandfather,
John R. Griffith enlisted in the Volunteer Army in December, 1861 from Union
County, Ohio. He served in most of the Southern Battles and died in April, 1864.
He is buried at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo. I
have all of the letters he wrote home to his wife and son and describe much of
the daily life of a Union Soldier. Thank You again. I have just barely seen a
fraction of this sit

Good job. Glad to see so many pictures of Vicksburg on the web. I was raised
there and lived there until I was 25. At the present I am doing genealogy
research and had three 2great uncles who fought and died for the CSA. Hope to be
able to read about where they fought to add to my knowledge of my family
history.

Wallace L. Morgan 9/24/2000
My great grandfather (among other close relatives), Andrew Jackson Morgan,
served with Hood's Texas Brigade for four years, according to a letter written
by my father's sister. However, all of the research that I have done shows that
he served with the Texas 10th Cavalry. He survived, and lived the remainder of
his life as the manager of a large plantation at Corinth, Miss. In addition, I
served with a mounted memorial Union Cavalry unit near Phoenix Az, during
1972-1973.

Bruce, This is truly a wonderful site that you have. In fact, I have long
considered building a similar website for myself and your's has certainly given
me the encouragement to proceed with it. I live in Birmingham, AL, and have many
photos of Chattanooga/Chickamauga, Shiloh, Ft. Pickens, Ft. Barrancas, Ft.
Morgan and various other sites around Alabama, Georgia and NW Florida. Again, a
truly splendid job you have done!!
