The Confederate Marker for the 32 "unknown Confederate soldiers" has been returned to it's original location at the Houston Fire Department adjacent to the Jefferson Davis Hospital and a new chain link fence has been erected by the City of Houston to protect this sacred burial ground.
 
There is an above-ground basement on the old Jeff Davis hospital which is now a luxury condo. The CSA veterans allowed the hospital to be built over their comrades' graves and in the same area as the original CSA General Hospital but insisted on an above-ground basement so their bones would not be disturbed.
